Thursday 9/2 - SEPTEMBER!!!

  1. More about Garageband
    • Using XLR Mics through and audio interface such as an MBox2
    • LCD Mode - Mins:Secs, Bars:Beats, Tuner; Tempo
    • Ducking - one track drops volume automatically when another track region begins
    • Panning - left/right
    • Automation on single track, locking automation curves to regions
    • Bouncing part of a track
  2. In-Class assignment due as directed in class: Create a short musical piece with Garageband that can be used as background music for your Project Listing Page that wil be created later.
    • Filename like this: LeoF-bgmusic.band inside your Documents > Project 1 Self-Portrait > WebAudio Stuff folder
    • Your musical composition must have at least 1 software instrument that you play using the MIDI Controller Keyboard. You can use loops, SFXs and Jingles if you'd like.
    • The Purpose of this music is to play as BACKGROUND MUSIC to a webpage that you will create later. Perhaps something that can loop over and over without being too distracting.
    • When done, Export Song to Disk as an .mp3 and submit the resulting .mp3 into the Junior Drop Box.
    • You can always change this recording or create a new one for posting on your website. What you submit doesn't have to be the exact one that goes up on your website. Produce something now and feel free to tweak it later to make it better.

    • Simple webpage with "Hello World" - let's look at HTML a bit

  3. If you're done with all tutorials and have submitted your MacBasics folder to me, work on something from your other classes or you can also check out other Garageband tutorials on http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#garageband

  1. Due at the beginning of class: From Google Apps, open your homework assignment, Go to the document (not browser) File > Download as > Text. Make sure the file name is correct such as LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedExplanation.txt. Submit into correct folder in the Florendo Junior DropBox.
  2. Finish and submit your 'Things I've learned So Far" podcast LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedPodcast.m4a (NOT THE GARAGEBAND FILE!!!!!)
  3. When done with the above, log out of Student, log back in as you with your personal network account. Watch and DO these Mac Basics Video Tutorials http://www.freestyle.mvla.net/macbasics while logged in as you. You can't do these as homework because you need to be in your account at Freestyle to do the videos correctly.

Monday 8/23

  1. More about Garageband - creating your own podcast with your 'Things I've learned So Far" assignment from English
    • More on Multi-take recording with microphone
    • Using the Master Track
    • Adding SFX's, using Reverb, Echo
    • Requirements for "10 Things podcast" - due by the end of class TODAY.
      • Create in Student account (not your personal account b/c Garageband has been know to mess up with network accounts). When completely done with the podcast, you can transfer it into your account for archiving.
      • File name like this: LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedPodcast.band
      • YOU must read your revised "Things I learned so far" English assignment.
      • This podcast must have a title image with your name and at least 5 other images. No spaces between your photos on the podcast track will ensure no unintended flashes of your title image during playback.
      • This podcast must have musical/audio intro and outro (either GB loops or original music with virtual or real instruments that you play). No abrupt musical passages - use fade ins and fade outs. Optional: music during your reading.
      • Mix audio levels so that your voice is the most prominent volume because it's the more important part to hear.
      • Optional: add SFX's or other effects to enhance the recording.
      • Optional: use panning left to right for effect
      • Must be exported out of Garageband as .m4a file. Share > Export Podcast to disk > Use AAC Encoder (not MP3 encoder) > Filename like this: LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedPodcast.m4a
      • Submit your .m4a into appropriate DropBox on 0Freestyle--Staff-Florendo computer

  3. Homework due Wednesday:
    • In Google Docs, create a new document with file name such as LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedPodcastExplanation and write a paragraph or two about the musical and visual choices you used in your podcast. Eventually, this writing assignment will be pasted into your Self-Portrait website to accompany your embedded podcast on the web. All of what you write will be known as the Artist Statement for your Things I've Learned So Far Podcast.
    • Your Artist Statement MUST include the text of your Things I've Learned So Far assignment (exactly as heard in your podcast - this is known as a transcript). The purpose of this is that not everyone can hear, so you need to provide the text of your podcast for viewers who can't hear.
    • Your Artist Statement MUST include answers these questions: Why did you use these loops, musical passges and images and how did you envision them enhancing your " Things I've Learned So Far" podcast?
    • Your Artist Statement MUST include a short reflection about the process of making a podcast.
    • Optional: What else would you like the podcast viewer to know about your podcast?
    • Your Artist Statement MUST have correct spelling, grammar, and punctutation as any professional producation requires. The world will be your audience for this podcast and text.
    • Be ready on Wednesday to downloadfrom Google Docs as a text file with file name such as LeoF-ThingsIveLearnedPodcastExplanation.txt and submit to drop box on Wed at beginning of class.
