Monday 3/8

  1. Return any recording kits if you don't need it - place the kit on the laptop cart. I'll check the kits and check your name off.
  2. Due TODAY - Final Slideshow Transcript pdf with Title, Author, 17+ thumbnails (1 title image, 15+ documentary photos, 1 credits image), all dialogue associated with each photo. Make a pdf and put it in my dropbox.
  3. I have a scratch on my right eye and will be seeing an ophthamologist today so that's why I'm not there today.

Tuesday 3/2 & Thursday 3/4

  2. If you haven't done so yet, submit your Interview 2 & 3 audio and 5 photos for each interview. Later than Thursday will greatly reduce your grade for these assignments.
  3. Due on Monday at the beginning of class- Final Slideshow Transcript pdf with Title, Author, 17+ thumbnails (1 title image, 15+ documentary photos, 1 credits image), all dialogue associated with each photo. Tasks include:
  • Listen and edit all the audio clips you want from your interviews (you could also include them in your Research Paper)
  • Record your narrator dialogue with YOUR voice.
  • Choose your SFXs to enhance some of your photos.
  • Choose intro and outro music. Music during the slideshow is optional depending upon appropriateness of music and documentary.
  • Crop all photos to be 1440 x 960 pixels, number them in sequence (1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc.)
  • Reduce each thumbnail to be 200 x 133 pixels, number them in sequence (1th.jpg, 2th.jpg, 3th.jpg, etc.)

Friday 2/26

  3. Today: We'll create a practice version of a Slideshow Documentary Transcript - example
  • Use your own photos or download these photos
  • Crop and resize for transcript (200x133) and real slideshow (1440x960)
  • Upload into Google docs for use in creating Transcript
  • Print to make pdf

Wednesday 2/24

  1. Return any recording kits if you don't need it - place the kit on the laptop cart. I'll check the kits and check your name off.
  2. Submit your Interview 2 & 3 audio and 5 photos for each interview.
  3. Due today - use Reason to create your REAL Project Listing Page background music that will be used with your new Flash Music Controller. When done, here's how you export your song out of Reason:
    1. In Reason, go to File > Export Song as Audio File
    2. Navigate to your Music folder and you can choose either AIFF or WAV format because you'll be converting it to mp3 later in iTunes
    3. Save with filename of "webbackgroundaudio.aif" or "webbackgroundaudio.wav"
    4. Then use iTunes to convert the .aif or .wav into a .mp3 file
    5. Replace my webbackgroundaudio.mp3 in Sites/media with your new file by dragging the ,mp3 directly from the iTunes library to the Sites/media folder.
    6. Don't forget to "put" the new .mp3 up onto the webserver via Dreamweaver and check your Project Listing Page on the internet to see that it plays correctly.

Monday 2/22

  1. Return any recording kits if you don't need it. Don't be a kit HOG!
  2. Submit your Interview 2 & 3 audio and 5 photos for each interview.
  3. Today: In-class demo on how to create a simple Flash Music Pause/Play button to be used on your Project Listing Page and also your Project 3 Homepage. An example is the music controller on the WebAudio class webpage at the top just below the main page title. Download the .mp3 files from this folder.
  4. If done early, use Reason to create your REAL Project Listing Page background music that will be used with your new Flash Music Controller.

Tuesday 2/9 & Thursday 2/11

  1. Today: Half the class will go to the studio in groups of 4 for 1 hour each to learn how to properly set up mics and input levels for a drum set. Yamaha Drum Rep Chris Ortega will be our pro drummer for the session.
  2. Check this webpage to see if you need to submit a thumbnail to me or change home.html to index.html.
  3. Pro Tools Tutorials - DUE TODAY - submit your "Numbers" .wav file as directed after Pro Tools Tutorial #11
  4. Due if not already submitted - 1st Interview audio file + interview photos. Submit at least 5+ photos (varying content) from your interview. Make copies of the photos and resize them to maximum 1000 pixels wide. Create a folder and label it like this: MiaF-Intervew1 and in that folder move your 5+ resized photos and either an .mp3 or .wav file of your 1st Documentary interview with file name like this: MiaF-Interview1.mp3 or MiaF-Interview1.wav. Submit the entire folder containing 5+ photos and 1 audio interview into the appropriate dropbox.
  5. Reason Tutorials - login with your usual network account, not Student. By the last 30 minutes of class on Thursday, create a 30+ second piece of music in Reason with drums and synthesizers. Any style, any tempo. Show me that you can be creative with Reason. Submit the .rns file in the appropriate Drop Box. We'll listen to your composition at the end of class on Thursday.
  6. Due on Thursday -2nd Interview audio file + interview photos. Submit at least 5+ photos (varying content) from your interview. Make copies of the photos and resize them to maximum 1000 pixels wide. Create a folder and label it like this: MiaF-Intervew2 and in that folder move your 5+ resized photos and either an .mp3 or .wav file of your 2nd Documentary interview with file name like this: MiaF-Interview2.mp3 or MiaF-Interview2.wav. Submit the entire folder containing 5+ photos and 1 audio interview into the appropriate dropbox.
  7. If done with tutorials, start drawing out a Paper Prototype of your Project 3 Documentary Website. Check out previous students' designs and content to get a sense of what you need to do. Also read the project specifications. You can start working on the artwork/buttons for this website.

Friday 2/5

  1. Pro Tools Tutorials - login as Student, use the same computer all the time for a particularPT session. Open up previous .ptf files.
  2. Reason Tutorials - login with your usual network account, not Student.
  3. Due TODAY in class - 1st Interview audio file + interview photos. Submit at least 5+ photos (varying content) from your interview. Make copies of the photos and resize them to maximum 1000 pixels wide. Create a folder and label it like this: MiaF-Intervew1 and in that folder move your 5+ resized photos and either an .mp3 or .wav file of your 1st Documentary interview with file name like this: MiaF-Interview1.mp3 or MiaF-Interview1.wav.     • Documentary Location Photos - Choose 5 of the best photos of your documentary location photos you have already taken. Create copies of them and resize them to no wider than 1000 pixels. Create a new folder called documentary-location inside your Sites/project3/images folder, move your 5 photos into that folder and then use Dreamweaver to "put" that folder onto the webserver. I'll grade the assignment from the folder on the webserver. I'm checking for quantity (5), resized to 1000 px wide, quality of photos (are they usable for the your website?) and proper uploading to the webserver.
    • Documentary Research Notes - These are the same Research Notes that you created for English. Consolidate the notes as one document if necessary and share the doc with me.

  1. Check your email for a Survey about the previous unit.
  2. Project 3: Documentary Goals in WebAudio
    • Learn Pro Tools - as a personal DAW and a Studio DAW. Recording techniques and using the Studio for music recording.
    • Learn Reason
    • Create Documentary Audio Slide with Flash, ActionScripting and audio mixes from Pro Tools
    • Use Javascripts in your website.
  3. In-Class demo on how to use the portable recording devices so you can go out and record your 1st Interview for your Documentary
  4. Pro Tools demonstration
  5. Pro Tools Tutorials - go through as much as you can for the rest of the session today.
  6. Due date Friday in class - 1st Interview audio file. Speak to me personally if there are problems. We can do phone interview if necessary but the quality is not as good.

    • Spry Tabs tutorials - Learn how to do Spry Tabs here EVEN IF YOU DON'T PLAN on using Spry Tabs because you should learn how to do this anyway. Remember to post up your final files when done with the tutorials. Check on the real website to make sure they work properly. Spry Tabs uses files in Sites/scripts and Sites/styles so make sure those files are up on the webserver.

This means create all your pages from the template and post them up on the web so that clicking on your buttons actually works while viewing on the web. You don't need to have any content on the pages yet, but the design and functionality of the website should be posted. If you plan to use Spry Tabs, make sure you properly insert the Spry Tabs, name and format the look of the the tabs/content area but you don't have to include the content by the due date. CHECK YOUR PAGES on the web to make sure they look and function properly (without content).
