Monday 8/30 - Friday 9/3

Finalize your Music Video lyric choices. FInalize tempo, mood, tone. You have this week to produce a usable version of your song for Film Production next week starting on Tuesday 9/7. Make your studio reservation ASAP. Your song must include Reason sequenced music and also live recorded music. By Friday, submit to me the following

  • A .mp3 of your song with the title of song as the file name such as Song_Title.mp3.
  • Song must be minimum 1 minute and maximum 3 minutes - anything under or over these limits will reduce your grade.
  • Song must include MIDI sequences from Reason
  • Song must include live recorded portions using Pro Tools
  • Basic structure of song - no adding bars or changing tempo after you submit the file on Friday. You can enhance the song by adding/removing parts but don't change the bar and tempo structure.

 

Thursday 8/26

    • Using the Tools Window > Groove options
    • Using Redrum to trigger a vocal
    • Using the Vocoder - an equilizer or use for one sound source to modulate another sound source
  2. Basic music structure - as prep for the song you will start creating next week

      • Documents > Project 5: English, Design, WebAudio ; Documents > Project 6: English, Design, WebAudio ; etc.

  2. More about Reason
    • Combinator controls - programming the generic buttons, knobs and wheels to control parameters of the devices inside the combinator
    • Using the Tools Window > Tools options
      • Quantize - make human performance more precise
      • Pitch (Transpose) - altering many notes higher or lower in pitch
      • Note Velocity - more control of volume for individual notes
      • Note Lengths - precision values for note durations
      • Legato Adjustments - adds smoothness to a musical phrase
      • Scale Tempo - changing how fast your music is played
      • Alter Notes - really useful for creating drum fills
      • Automation Cleanup - removing automation nodes that don't really make a difference so that les CPU cycles are required to create the music

  2. More about Reason modules
    • Delays - this can create a whole new feel to beats or patterns by adding echos that die away
    • Phasor - useful for make long notes interesting or for long patterns in Dr. Rex
    • Scream 4 Distortion - distorting a dry clean sound
    • Combinator - like an empty box in which you can put in many modules to create a unique sound and then play that combinator as a single instrument. Best to start with included Combinator Patches to see how they put together a particular new instrument.
